Excerpt from the Sept. 14, 2010 Houston Chronicle titled “A paradise for wine lovers” by Dale Robertson

“Krutar Patel calls his new west side wine bar, Winetopia, “A Vino Paradise.” So heavenly is the place that patrons will literally be walking on wine when they enter because the concrete floor will be stained with a couple heavy coats of red wine.

No, it won’t be grand cru stuff, but the effect should be interesting. And look at the money he stands to save in cleaning costs. Tipsy cab lovers can’t wreck the carpet.

Although Patel — call him KP, he says – hasn’t completely re invented the wheel with Winetopia (6363 San Felipe at Voss, on the ground floor of the new Fairmont apartment complex), he has rolled it in some different directions. The 170 wines on his inaugural list – culled from more than 2,000 he says he tasted – are virtually all boutique producers and sold by very small distributors/importers. He didn’t buy from the city’s two 800-pound gorillas, Glazer’s and Republic.

We feature high quality wines from around the world.  We search for exceptional handcrafted wines and personally taste and select each one that we bring in. We have a great selection of hard to find wines.  Our wines are small production wines and are not found in retail stores.  Since we specialize in only small production wines, we do not have a traditionally written wine list (our inventory changes so often that we would be killing so many trees if we tried to keep up with a written list and we don’t want to kill trees).  Our list consists of all the bottles on the shelf and our knowledgeable staff.  Stop in and learn more about them from our knowledgeable staff.

Come bring your dogs to Winetopia next time you take them out. We have doggy treats and water bowls for your best friends.  Which wine bar lets you do that?  (Dog only allowed on the outside patio.)

What are Wine Flights?

Wine flights, also sometimes referred to as tasting flights, are tastings of multiple wines, in order to get a feel for breadth or depth. Wine flights are usually intended for those new to the experience of tasting wine, or those who want to increase their understanding of a specific region, vintage, or varietal.
Our flight/tasting program is offered all day and will change every month. The flights are 5 glass tastings for $15. Please ask our wait-staff for this month's flight.
